We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator (Dump Truck/Water Truck) who also has a Class A License.
Location: Lake Mathews - 18250 La Sierra Ave., Riverside, CA 92503
Pay: Prevailing Wage
Position Is Temporary: Up to 6 months
*Only candidates with experience and knowledge in the practices, procedures, and methods of light and heavy equipment operation and transportation are welcome.
Candidates will operate equipment ranging from standard vehicles and multiple axle trucks and trailers to varied types of heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, water trucks, tanker trucks, and cranes used in the construction, improvement, and repair aspects of large-scale water treatment, distribution, and hydroelectric systems. Candidate skills include the proper and safe use, transportation, and minor maintenance of varied equipment, as well as advanced knowledge of construction techniques associated with heavy equipment used in conjunction with a variety of water, hydroelectric, and supporting infrastructure improvement, such as maintenance and corrective repair projects. Assist in general patrol road maintenance activities, including operating dump trucks, water trucks, and vacuum trucks. Assist with loading of materials, general labor activities, and vehicle maintenance.
Required Knowledge of: Employees in this title are at the skilled-level and utilize and advance skills through classroom and on-the-job training or they are obtaining the necessary experience working with journey-level Operators to competently demonstrate: The safe practices, tools and techniques related to the operation of light and heavy equipment and associated construction methods for the repair and improvement of water distribution, treatment and hydroelectric assets and equipment, ability to understand, read and interpret blueprints, schematics and drawings of assets, equipment, and parts necessary to effectively operate equipment, perform minor repairs on light and heavy equipment and/or component parts, inspecting a construction site in preparation for equipment operation to ensure adequate clearances such as underground service alerts, safety aspects, and to communicate any potential unsafe situations to other employees and supervisors, Federal, State and local codes and other regulations for all phases of handling and transportation of hazardous materials, as well as pertinent regulations pertaining to the Endangered Species Act and similar regulations, and experience of the working characteristics of varied light and heavy equipment necessary to safely and effectively operate equipment in varied operating situations, and safety practices and regulations for operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities to: Interpret complex instructions, manuals, operating and maintenance procedures, and specifications related to light and heavy equipment and related construction activities, and apply and guide others in adhering to safety practices and regulations for operating light and heavy construction equipment.
Per Manager’s request: A minimum of 3 years’ experience as an equipment operator is required. Must operate Heavy Equipment (Dump Truck/Water Truck) with constant attention to safety of equipment operation in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of water utility assets, assemblies, and water-related equipment such as large gates, valves, pipelines, structures, vaults, drain covers, and similar equipment.
Desires Experience Below:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an equipment operator.
- May be required to obtain a valid Drivers license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A or B with appropriate commercial license endorsements.
- OSHA
- No Cal PERS membership
Physical Demands:
- Heavy tasks may require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, with intermittent need to lift and carry materials and/or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. Frequently requires pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools weighing as much as 100 pounds with assistance. May be required to lift and move heavy items with the assistance of others and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes of varied types and capacities. Physical effort includes frequent walking, climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, standing, kneeling, and sitting for long periods of time.
