Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the County Assessor, contributes to the efficient daily operation of the Assessor’s Office by performing a wide range of skilled work ensuring accurate real estate/property assessments which comply with regulations.
Essential Functions
- Verifies and proofreads data entry in CAMA System for residential, commercial, and personal properties using various reference materials such as field drawings and Pictometry flyover.
- Reviews and updates historical appraisals and verifies attributes.
- Converts and validates property records within the CAMA System to ensure accuracy.
- Assists appraisers in preparing maps, worksheets, and other necessary documentation for field inspections.
- Aids in the entering building permits from various sources and helps to identify and locate properties as needed.
- Establishes and maintains effective filing and retrieval system of departmental information.
- Answers incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of calls, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel or department.
- Greets internal and external customers and visitors, determines nature of business, answers questions, and directs to appropriate personnel.
- Screens incoming calls and correspondence; exercises judgment and responds accordingly.
- Responds to questions and requests for information in a professional and timely manner.
- Builds and fosters effective working relationships with others.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences.
- Executes other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of administrative experience.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Policies, functions, and responsibilities of Sierra County.
- Basic arithmetic, English grammar, and use of office equipment.
- Records management.
Skill in:
- Reading and interpreting maps.
- Operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, accounting and database software programs in a Windows environment.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Ability to:
- Communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, work independently, and meet strict deadlines.
- Complete work with attention to detail.
- Interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Research and analyze data, apply policies and procedures to daily work, and present conclusions effectively.
Physical/Mental Demands, Work Environment, Equipment Usage
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office with a moderate noise level. Occasional work outdoors where incumbent may be exposed to varying temperature and weather conditions. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; move throughout the office/complex/site; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate effectively. The employee occasionally is required to lift/move up to 25 pounds. Close vision ability and clarity of vision at long distance is required. Incumbent may sit for extended periods of time. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles and/or allergens; and areas where the use of protective clothing, equipment, devices, or materials is necessary. Position may cause stress and tension.
Equipment, tools, and materials:
Tools used in performing the essential functions of the job: maps, copier, vehicle, fax machine, telephone, computer, office supplies, word processing software, presentation software, spreadsheet software, GIS software, and other relevant tools.
