We are currently seeking talented individuals for a variety of roles, including a Manufacturing Facilities & Safety Manager. This position requires experience in an Heavy Industry or Manufacturing (Pulp and Paper Mills, Steel mills, etc.). Experience in Facilities Management and Safety and Safety Plan implementation is a must!

 

The position of Manufacturing Safety & Facilities Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing  the maintenance, safety, and functionality of a building or facility. They ensure that the physical environment meets the needs of the occupants, managing various aspects like building systems, security, and grounds maintenance. 

They are also responsible for workplace safety programs and ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and industry standards. They develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries in a manufacturing setting. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilities managers plan and coordinate building maintenance, manage contracts with vendors, ensure the efficiency of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and oversee general upkeep. 
  • They implement and maintain safety procedures, manage security systems, and ensure the facility meets all relevant safety and environmental regulations. 
  • This includes space planning, allocation, and potentially coordinating office moves or renovations. 
  • They manage budgets for facility operations, maintenance, and potentially capital projects. 
  • Facilities managers negotiate and manage contracts with various service providers (cleaning, security, landscaping, etc.). 
  • They may supervise facilities staff, including maintenance personnel, custodial staff, and security personnel. Develop and implement safety programs: This includes creating comprehensive safety plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the specific manufacturing environment such as a  heavy industrial, manufacturing company and environment.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits: Regularly evaluate the workplace to identify potential hazards and assess risks. This can involve inspections of machinery, processes, and work areas.
  • Identifies potentially hazardous workplace conditions and trains employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to employee safety.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting safety.
  •  Ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance with both State and Federal OSHA requirements
  • Ensure regulatory compliance: Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensure the organization adheres to these standards. This might include overseeing OSHA compliance and maintaining required records.
  • Lead training initiatives: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering topics like emergency procedures, safe work practices, and equipment use.
  • Investigate incidents: Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote a safety culture: Foster a proactive approach to safety by engaging employees, encouraging hazard reporting, and promoting a mindset where safety is a shared responsibility.
  • Manage safety documentation: Maintain accurate records of training, incidents, inspections, and compliance activities.
  • Liaise with external agencies: Communicate with regulatory bodies and other external organizations regarding safety matters. 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: Previous experience in safety management, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Education: Typically, a bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety regulations, such as OSHA standards.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) can be beneficial.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for training, reporting, and interacting with employees and management.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to identify hazards, analyze data, and develop solutions to improve safety practices.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and drive a culture of safety.
  • Detail-oriented: Meticulous attention to detail for conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with regulations. 
  • Requires High School Diploma. Prefer BA or AA degree. Industrial Hygienists welcome to apply but not required.
  • Five years’ safety experience in an Heavy Industry (Pulp and Paper Mills, Steel mills, etc.)
  • Familiar with OSHA Safety programs and training requirements for Confined Space Entry, LOTO, HAZWOPER, Injury & Illness Prevention Plan etc.
  • OSHA 10 and 30 certification desirable.
  • GMP Audit is preferred

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
