Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Peer Advocate to join our team on the U.S. Side of Niagara, in supporting families navigating challenges related to mental health, substance use, and other behavioral health issues. As a Family Peer Advocate, you will provide emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to families, helping them access services and resources, and empowering them to advocate for themselves and their loved ones.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one emotional support to families by listening to their concerns and offering empathy.
Assist families in understanding and navigating the mental health and substance use treatment systems.
Help families develop strategies for advocating for themselves and their loved ones within these systems.
Facilitate communication between families and providers, ensuring families are informed about treatment options and resources.
Provide educational materials and resources to families about mental health and substance use.
Help families access community resources, including services for housing, healthcare, and financial assistance.
Support families in crisis situations, ensuring they have the resources and coping strategies to manage challenges.
Attend meetings with families to provide support, if necessary.
Maintain confidential and accurate case notes and documentation according to program standards.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
21 years or older
Lived experience as a caregiver or family member of an individual with mental health, substance use, or related challenges.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish trust and rapport with diverse families.
Knowledge of the mental health and substance use treatment systems, community resources, and advocacy strategies.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Valid New York State Driver’s License with clean driving record
