FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist is often the first point of contact for prospective team members and plays a vital role in shaping their experience at The Well. Qualifications:

  1. Education & Certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
    • At least two years of human resource management experience preferred.
    • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP desired.
  2. HR Knowledge & Technical Skills
    • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to learn and use basic digital platforms to manage intranet content and website job postings.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage operational systems, such as tracking licensure, CEUs, payroll data, and resource logistics.
  3. Communication & Interpersonal Skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional and warm across phone, in-person, email, and text interactions.
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence when handling confidential and sensitive matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Recruitment, Hiring, and Onboarding

  • Recruit, interview, and welcome new team members with a focus on cultural alignment and individual strengths, ensuring every candidate experiences The Well’s person-first approach.
  • Collaborate with directors and supervisors to identify the skills and competencies needed for each opening.
  • Recruit and onboard interns and volunteers, ensuring their roles align with The Well’s mission and core values.
  • Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Conduct onboarding activities for new employees, facilitate orientation, and ensure all onboarding requirements are completed per agency guidelines.
  • Update and manage current job postings on the organization’s website.
  • Represent The Well at job fairs and community events to support recruitment efforts and increase visibility.

2. Training, Development, and Compliance Tracking

  • Organize, coordinate, and communicate internal team member trainings; oversee The Well’s on-demand training platform.
  • Monitor and document completion of required training, continuing education, and work assessments for compliance.
  • Track licensure and certification expiration dates; maintain systems for CEU tracking and renewal.
  • Evaluate training progress and barriers with supervisors to ensure trainings are effective and meaningful.
  • Support employee development through creative, individualized learning opportunities and adaptive supervision structures.

3. Payroll, Benefits, and HRIS Support

  • Provide regular support to the Payroll & Benefits Specialist by:
    • Double-checking payroll and verifying wage calculations.
    • Ensuring accurate benefits enrollment and data entry into the HRIS system.

4. Employee Relations and HR Administration

  • Maintain employee personnel files in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Execute and support HR processes—including disciplinary actions, investigations, performance and talent management, morale, workplace safety, and recognition—under the direction of program directors and in alignment with agency policies.
  • Respond to employment-related inquiries, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Design and lead employee recognition efforts that build a culture of appreciation and belonging.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and regularly review internal practices to ensure alignment.
  • Stay current on trends, regulatory changes, best practices, and new technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law.
  • Use data from surveys and interviews to challenge outdated systems and develop people-centered, innovative HR practices.

5. Internal Communications and Culture

  • Maintain up-to-date content on the intranet (e.g., birthdays, anniversaries, announcements).
  • Participate in committees relevant to the HR function, such as the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Council.
  • Organize The Well’s internal apparel store, including gathering team preferences, updating offerings, and sending quarterly announcements.

6. Onboarding and Offboarding Logistics

  • Manage resource logistics for new hires and terminations, including issuing and collecting keys, phones, computers, and other equipment.
  • Coordinate with supervisors to ensure new hire office space is prepared and thoughtfully planned.
  • Support offboarding processes by ensuring required forms are completed, system access is revoked, exit interviews are offered, and agency resources are returned.

7. Other Responsibilities

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  2. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  3. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
