Legal Clerk – Federal Agency (Columbia, SC)

Primary Responsibilities

As a Legal Clerk, you will play a critical role in the management and coordination of fact witnesses throughout legal proceedings. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Witness Coordination: Assist fact witnesses before, during, and after trial—including court, pre-trial conferences, and grand jury appearances.
  • Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for fact witnesses—answering calls, responding to inquiries, and ensuring they are fully informed and prepared.
  • Travel & Reimbursement: Coordinate travel and lodging arrangements, prepare and process reimbursement documents (e.g., vouchers), and ensure compliance with DOJ and USAO procedures.
  • Courtroom Support: Greet and orient witnesses upon arrival, accompany them to court, provide a safe waiting area, and collect necessary documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with AUSAs (Assistant U.S. Attorneys), the U.S. Marshals Service, investigative agencies, and court personnel to ensure smooth witness operations.
  • Documentation & File Management: Draft non-legal correspondence, maintain witness files, and manage databases and calendars for witness appearances.
  • Compliance & Attention to Detail: Handle sensitive information in accordance with Department of Justice protocols and ensure all documentation meets legal formatting and retention standards.

  • Proficient in handling multi-step administrative tasks in a legal or government setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
