POSITION SUMMARY:
The Housing Navigator will assist participants with locating and applying for appropriate housing. The Housing Navigator should be empathic with strong interpersonal skills to interact compassionately with people who are having a housing crisis. The Housing Navigator will also locate additional housing resources, develop working relationships with landlords, and educate the program staff on housing options available to the population. The Housing Navigator must enjoy working as a member of a team in a cooperative effort and be able to exercise creative and independent judgment to solve problems. The Housing Navigator is expected to perform her/his duties in alignment with the vision and values of LightHouse Social Service Centers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.\tAssists families in locating and applying for appropriate housing.
2.\tAssists families in monitoring the application process.
3.\tConducts initial and if necessary, follow-up housing habitability inspections.
4.\tCompletes Fair Market Rate or Rent Reasonableness documentation.
5.\tCompletes Move-In packets and secures a copy of the signed lease for the file.
6.\tCompletes Housing Quality Standards inspections and Lead Base Paint Screenings pre-move in and annually if applicable.
7.\tNegotiates rental agreements with landlords, assists participants with review of lease agreements and assists participants with move-in.
8.\tWorks with case managers to address any emerging issues related to housing and community adjustment.
9.\tConducts outreach and expands access to housing by cultivating relationships with property owners and management companies.
10.\t Connects with landlords via neighborhood outreach, internet searches, and networking events.
11.\tDevelops expertise in available affordable housing sites and housing subsidies.
12.\tEducates families and program staff on housing options available in the community.
13.\tMaintains a relationship with landlord and property management staff.
14.\tTransports participants in personal vehicles or in the company van.
15.\tMonitors participants weekly who are residing in emergency housing (motels)
16.\tMaintains a relationship with motel staff and responds to emergencies, problem and issues regarding participants temporarily residing in a motel.
17.\tComplies with all policies and procedures.
18.\tPerforms other related duties as requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
a.\tAA degree in Human Services preferred, or one (1) year experience working in the field of homeless services or related human services experience.
b.\tStrong customer service skills with the ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive and appropriate way.
c.\tKnowledge and experience working with unhoused individuals and families.
d.\tKnowledge of community resources and services.
e.\tEffective organizational and time management skills.
f.\tAbility to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
g.\tGood problem-solving skills
h.\tStrong verbal and written communication skills.
i.\tStrong telephone skills.
j.\tStrong computer literacy skills to maintain and manage participant files.
k.\tStrong decision-making skills and good judgment.
l.\tStrong understanding of confidentiality and ethical conduct regarding participants’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
m.\tAbility to work with various computer software and web-based programs (word, excel, outlook, teams etc.)
n.\tAbility to work independently.
o.\tThis position requires significant driving. LightHouse programs cover the entire County.
p.\tValid driver’s license and insurable.
