Job Summary:
The Procurement Manager is responsible for sourcing and purchasing ingredients, packaging materials, and operational supplies necessary for food manufacturing. This role ensures timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement to support continuous production and quality standards. The Procurement Manager will lead supplier negotiations, manage inventory levels, and work cross-functionally to ensure consistent material availability while maintaining food safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gain alignment with sourcing strategies for raw ingredients, packaging, and manufacturing supplies.
- Conducts RFPs to ensure competitive pricing while aligning with all operational and quality requirements
- Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with food-grade suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure all purchased materials meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, FSMA).
- Negotiate contracts to secure optimal pricing, lead times, and service terms.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production to forecast material needs and support new product development.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse and production teams to prevent shortages or overstock.
- Analyze market trends for key commodities and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure procurement processes comply with internal policies and external audits (e.g., GFSI, SQF, BRC).
- Lead procurement reporting and maintain accurate records of purchases, costs, and supplier performance.
- Manage vendor performance, resolving issues related to delivery, quality, or compliance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Food Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of procurement experience, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and certifications (e.g., HACCP, SQF, GFSI).
- Proven negotiation and contract management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle) and inventory management software.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical ability (MS Excel, large data sets, etc)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
