The Sales Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements, preparing accurate and competitive quotes, and supporting the sales team in securing machining, fabrication, and field service work. This role bridges technical understanding with customer-focused communication to deliver timely and detailed proposals that align with customer needs and company capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Estimate Preparation

    • Analyze customer RFQs (Requests for Quote), prints, and specifications to prepare time, labor, material, and equipment cost estimates.

    • Collaborate with engineering, machining, and field service teams to understand process requirements and capabilities.

  2. Customer Communication

    • Serve as a technical point of contact during the quoting process to clarify scope and requirements with customers.

    • Ensure estimates meet customer expectations while maintaining profitability and accuracy.

  3. Sales Support

    • Work closely with the Sales and Business Development team to develop winning proposals.

    • Follow up on quotes to gather feedback, adjust as needed, and help close sales opportunities.

  4. Field & Shop Coordination

    • Interface with shop supervisors and field service teams to assess project timelines, shop capacity, and on-site logistics.

    • Ensure estimates account for both in-house manufacturing and field service work when applicable.

  5. Job Handoff & Documentation

    • Ensure seamless handoff from estimate to execution, providing detailed work scopes and supporting documentation to operations.

    • Maintain accurate records of quotes, revisions, and customer interactions.

  6. Continuous Improvement

    • Analyze historical job performance to refine estimation accuracy.

    • Suggest process or pricing improvements based on industry trends and internal performance data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Background in hydro-technology, mining, or similar heavy industry
  • 2+ years of estimating experience
  • Strong communication and team skills
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, machining, and fabrication
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms
  • Ability to build rapport with clients
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
