Job Description
The Controller will lead all accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting functions operating across several states. This role combines hands-on financial operations management with strategic financial planning and analysis.
The Controller will be responsible for the integrity of financial statements,
compliance with GAAP, and driving operational efficiency through streamlined reporting,
automation, and system optimization.
Acting as a key business partner to the CFO and leadership team, the Controller will
oversee a team of accounting professionals and collaborate cross-functionally to
support data-driven decisions, benchmarking, and long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting Operations & Financial Close
Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts
receivable, cash application, and general ledger.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings.
Supervise balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the chart of accounts
across multiple profit centers and legal entities.
Manage journal entries, accruals, and intercompany transactions.
2. Financial Reporting Analysis
Lead the preparation of internal monthly and quarterly management reports.
Create dashboards and KPIs to track financial and operational performance.
Perform variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure consistency and integrity in financial data across reporting platforms.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
Drive the annual budgeting process across all branches and departments.
Develop rolling forecasts and long-term strategic financial plans.
Coordinate with department heads to align financial plans with business
objectives.
4. Internal Controls & Compliance
Maintain and improve internal control systems and ensure compliance with
GAAP and company policies.
Support internal and external audits, including tax preparation and audit
schedules.
Monitor adherence to accounting and operational policies.
5. Systems & Process Optimization
Identify and implement opportunities to automate financial and accounting
workflows.
Collaborate with IT and ERP administrators to optimize system usage and
reporting capabilities.
Support the implementation of financial planning tools and process
improvements.
6. Leadership & Team Management
Directly manage and mentor a team of 5+ accounting professionals including
AR/AP staff and a Senior Accountant.
Provide training, coaching, and career development opportunities.
Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred, MBA a
plus.
7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 3 years
in a leadership role.
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
requirements.
Proven experience in multi-location or multi-entity environments; material
handling, distribution experience strongly preferred.
Proficient in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks Enterprise,
Sage) and advanced Excel.
Experience with data visualization or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
