Position Summary:
A material handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, handling, and staging of aluminum coils to support the production schedule. This position requires operating forklifts to ensure inventory accuracy, quality control, and maintaining a safe working environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling & Movement:

·       Operate sit down propane powered forklifts to transport, load, and unload aluminum coils and scrap metals.

·       Stage coils for production, ensuring proper alignment for production schedules.

·       Move finished goods and scrap materials to designated areas.

Inventory & Documentation:

·       Verify coil specifications (size, alloy, and order details) before staging for production.

·       Complete necessary documentation for material transfers and production reporting.

Equipment & Tool Use:

·       Utilize banding tools, stretch wrap machines, and forklifts to secure materials.

·       Perform basic maintenance checks on forklifts and material-handling equipment, reporting any issues to maintenance.

·       Perform daily pre-operation inspections of forklifts, loaders, and other equipment, reporting any issues to maintenance.

·       Follow lockout/tagout procedures when required.

Safety & Housekeeping:

·       Adhere to OSHA, company, and department safety policies, including PPE requirements.

·       Identify and report any safety hazards, material damage, or equipment malfunctions.

·       Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain an efficient workspace

Other tasks as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

·       Environment: In an aluminum coil coating environment, which includes exposure to high noise levels, temperature fluctuations, and fumes/vapors.

·       Shifts: Rotating shifts that include days, nights, afternoons, weekends, and holidays as needed

·       Pace: Fast-paced industrial setting that requires constant awareness of moving machinery and materials.

 

Qualifications: Education/Experience:

·       High school diploma or GED required

·       1+ years of material handling experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred

·       Forklift certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain through company training)

·       Teamwork & Communication: Works effectively with operators, supervisors, and logistics personnel

Physical Requirements:

·       Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.

·       Requires standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.

·       Ability to climb on and off forklifts safely.

·       Must have good hand-eye coordination for precise handling of coils and materials.
