POSITION OVERVIEW: The Accountant will support the development and maintenance of Achieve Miami’s financial processes, including but not limited to budgeting, accounting, accounts payable and receivable, contract awards, reporting and capital project management. This role requires a confident self-starter with an attention to detail, strong entrepreneurial spirit, relationship-building skills, and the ability to get things done. This is a full-time, salary-exempt position.

Reporting and Relationships:

This position will report to the Executive Director and/or CFO and support the organization across programs and projects.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Achieve Miami’s financial management policies and procedures and communicate them clearly to all staff.
  • Create agendas and manage follow throughs for regular finance meetings.
  • Ensure complete and up-to-date operating procedures for all accounting and financial controls. This includes continuous improvement in financial operations by identifying and implementing streamlined accounting, payroll, HR and reporting processes.
  • Manage the organization’s relationships with external auditors and other relevant/appropriate business vendors.
  • Prepare and support the team during the organization’s annual budgeting process.
  • Be a team player by supporting program events.
  • Support the development of budget tracking tools, cash flow projections and support staff in the growth of their financial acumen.
  • Utilize Quickbooks Online for reporting and budgeting purposes, including the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements and budget reports. This requires regular inputting and updating entries within QuickBooks (bookkeeping).
  • Confirm General Ledger codes and budgets are aligned across payroll, programs, payroll provider, and Quickbooks. This includes synthesizing information from reports to put into summaries.
  • Prepare all required documents for annual audit process, 990 and other relevant corporate accountability requirements such as, grant budgets and/or special cost benefit studies as required.
  • Ensure compliance with any and all financial and contract/grant reporting requirements for private or public funding, licensing, or regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Director as needed, to prepare and process payroll.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Director to review all receipts and disbursements, to ascertain correct account distribution and ensure all support documentation is accurate and in order.
  • Collaborate with Administrative Manager re: Finance related/HR matters.
  • Manage and monitor organization’s financial records retention policy.
  • Ensure corporate business and insurance related matters are current at all times, including necessary research and quotes for policies. and compliance of the organizational requirements.
  • Resolve accounting and financial problems and/or issues. This includes being nimble and able to quickly reprioritize tasks to accommodate time-sensitive grant requirements.
  • Able to work on tight deadlines.
  • Other duties as required to accomplish organizational goals and/or as assigned by the Executive Director, and/or senior management. Duties may be complex due to the need for multi-tasking.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in accounting or finance from accredited college or university, or equivalent education/experience of at least 3 - 5 years. Non profit accounting experience preferred.

REQUIRED:

  • Strong Command of QuickBooks

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

  • Attention to detail

  • Team player

  • Possesses strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills

  • Light physical activity as related to activities described. Lifting not exceeding 50 lbs.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • MDCPS and DCF Background Clearance

Details:

  • This will be a full-time, salaried position. Compensation commensurate with track record and experience and available resources.

  • Position will report directly to the Executive Director.

  • Location: Hybrid, 2 full days in office required. May include some weekend and evening engagements.
