Job Overview:
Powell Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pipefitter Foreman to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years experience in various aspects of pipefitting & supervising/coordinating work crews. This role involves working on MSHA construction sites and requires adherence to industry codes and standards & puts safety as top priority.
The Primary Purpose of this position will be to Supervise and coordinate the activities of work crews engaged in the lay out, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing system.
Typical Duties:
Coordinates and assists in the selection type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications. Supervises and inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness. Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers. Understands, and has a working knowledge of methods of cutting pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. Threads pipe, using threading machine, ends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine. Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass and plastic. Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints. Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools. Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. Supervises and coordinates the testing of piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks. Analyzes and resolves work problems.
Requirements:
Working foreman should be able to: work under stress or pressure; work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; make decisions based on measurable criteria; and visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings. Physically, must be able to: work easily and skillfully with hands; lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds; see well (either naturally or with correction); climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds; and stand, stoop, kneel, crouch. Completion of apprenticeship program preferred. May be required to be licensed. Ability to travel to jobsites will be required. "Current" jobsite located in Berry, AL
