FUNCTIONAL ROLE:

The Controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including managing the other members of the accounting department. This includes the production of monthly financial statements, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to efficiently operate the company and mitigate risk.  Specifically, tracking and paying A/P accounts, Invoicing customers from Work in Process Project Management documents, tracking and collecting A/R accounts, payroll and statutory tax filings, inventory transactions and accuracy, production of monthly financial reports, and annual preparation of operating Budgets. This position is also responsible for the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and ensuring they reflect the appropriate results of each project launched and/or completed, and that all published information complies with generally accepted accounting principles.  The scope of the position is also responsible for cash management and financial analysis with emphasis on conducting monthly variance analysis relative to approved budgets.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:                    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.

Experience:                   Demonstrated ability to establish budgets, complete variance analysis, close and publish monthly results.

                                      Experience with AIA Contracts, Billing and WIP Reporting.

                                                Experience with QuickBooks or similar financial software systems is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

1. Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures by maintaining a reconciled general ledger, including posting monthly journal entries, completing account reconciliations, providing variance analysis and investigating discrepancies
2. Conduct month and year end closing to provide timely and accurate financial reporting

Transactions

1. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
2. Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable

Reporting

1. Issue timely and complete monthly financial statements by the 10th working day of each month
2. Recommend Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) against which to measure the performance of company operations

Compliance

1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
