Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Transportation Manager to oversee our company’s transportation operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods, managing transportation staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the day-to-day transportation operations.
- Optimize transportation routes to improve delivery efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage a team of drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators.
- Oversee scheduling, routing, and tracking of vehicles and shipments.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA).
- Maintain and track transportation metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, fuel usage, freight costs).
- Collaborate with warehouse, procurement, and customer service teams to ensure seamless operations.
- Select and manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics service providers.
- Handle transportation budgeting and prepare cost analysis reports.
- Investigate and resolve transportation-related issues and complaints.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in transportation or logistics management.
- Strong understanding of supply chain and logistics operations.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet management software.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of DOT and other transportation regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with route planning and fleet optimization software.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
- Specialized transportation skills a plus
Work Environment:
- Office setting with regular visits to warehouses, distribution centers, or fleet facilities.
- May require travel depending on company operations.
