Position Summary:

The Retail and Showroom Manager plays a key role in developing and executing Canyon Bicycles USA’s retail experience strategy, managing Showroom operations, and fostering strategic retail partnerships. This role requires experience in P&L management, team leadership, merchandising, and sales, while having strong business skills related to identifying, structuring, and executing future retail initiatives such as pop-ups, takeovers, and partner retail displays.

Additionally, this role requires extensive professional business acumen to optimize the Showroom team, collaborate within the greater Retail & Service Partnerships department, and work closely with various US and Global departments to execute the necessary IT systems, website, marketing promotion, and brand experience functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Showroom Management

  • Financial Oversight: Oversee the Canyon Showroom strategy and revenue objectives, working closely with Finance to review and manage the P&L.
  • Customer Experience: Ensure an exceptional, end-to-end customer experience from the moment a customer enters the facility to the moment they drive away in their car.
  • Brand Values: Cultivate a hospitality and customer-centric culture that sets the standard for the entire organization, from customer service to events, aligning with Canyon’s brand values and strategic goals.
  • KPI Management: Establish clear goals and KPIs for the Showroom team, including a roadmap to meet defined objectives and specific performance standards. Set up systems and SOPs needed for data collection of test rides, New Bike Day, sales transactions, and other KPI tracking.
  • Training and Onboarding: Develop and execute a staff training and onboarding program focused on the Canyon brand ethos, product knowledge, sales consulting, the purchasing process, and customer-facing policies and programs. Create and maintain operational SOPs as well as the environment for sharing internal resources.
  • Bike Demo and Display Management Work with the US Sales and Marketing teams to curate the appropriate bike mix for display and demo. Update the bikes frequently based on priorities and launches. Collaborate with the Marketing Bikes team on ordering, delivery, bike building, and tracking of assets. Ensure all bikes are properly maintained and serviced in a timely manner, which includes ordering parts and scheduling service.
  • Visual Merchandise Execution: Leveraging the Global Brand Experience team, lead the execution of branding and merchandising projects through completion. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, gathering design files, working with vendors, managing deadlines, setting up displays, and installing infrastructure.
  • Activations, Events, and Promotion: Work with the Marketing team to curate and execute a Showroom activation plan and events calendar. Bring new ideas to the table and highlight Global brand initiatives, such as bike launches and major races.
  • Canyon HQ Facilities: Oversee greater facility operations, which include but are not limited to communicating with property management, managing cleaning and repair services, ordering office and kitchen supplies, and maintaining safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Staffing Optimization: Due to the unpredictable ebb and flow of customers in the Showroom, the staff roster will be lean and consist primarily of part-time employees. Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in creating schedules to accommodate the needs of the business are required.

Retail Partnerships

  • Retail Strategy Support: Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Retail & Service Partnerships to develop and implement a long-term US retail partner strategy. Stay informed of industry trends and competitor activities, sharing insights to inform Canyon’s retail and partnership strategies.
  • Partnership Development: Actively seek and cultivate new retail partnerships with complementary brands to create opportunities for pop-up stores, takeovers, and in-store displays.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, including Marketing, Operations, and Finance, to ensure seamless execution of retail partnership initiatives.
  • Global Collaboration: Create a close working relationship with the Global Retail team, which includes aligning strategy, technology solutions, and brand experience standards to inform and create a US-specific approach.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or Retail.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Marketing, Events, or Retail.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading and managing teams or multiple direct reports.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven expertise in retail management, partnerships, or business development, preferably within the cycling, outdoor, or sporting goods industry.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and P&L statements.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for cycling, outdoor adventure, and fostering community connections.
