Job Description

Job Title: Controller
Organization: Metro Community Development, Inc.
Location: Flint, Michigan (remote 1 day per week)
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to oversee our day-to-day accounting operations, manage our financial reporting, and support the strategic financial planning of our organization. This is a key leadership position within our finance team, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strong fiscal management in support of our mission.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all general ledger activity, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
Prepare internal financial statements, variance analysis, and financial reports for leadership and the Board
Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (federal and state)
Coordinate annual audit and 990 preparation with external auditors
Maintain internal controls and develop policies to safeguard assets
Support budget development and forecasting processes
Monitor grants, restricted funds, and donor reporting requirements
Manage cash flow and banking relationships
Assist with payroll, benefits accounting, and HR coordination

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA preferred)
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or Controller role
Experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting and grant tracking
Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit procedures, and compliance standards
Proficiency in Creative Solutions Accounting and MS Office
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
