Job Title: Controller
Organization: Metro Community Development, Inc.
Location: Flint, Michigan (remote 1 day per week)
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to oversee our day-to-day accounting operations, manage our financial reporting, and support the strategic financial planning of our organization. This is a key leadership position within our finance team, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strong fiscal management in support of our mission.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to oversee our day-to-day accounting operations, manage our financial reporting, and support the strategic financial planning of our organization. This is a key leadership position within our finance team, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strong fiscal management in support of our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all general ledger activity, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
- Prepare internal financial statements, variance analysis, and financial reports for leadership and the Board
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (federal and state)
- Coordinate annual audit and 990 preparation with external auditors
- Maintain internal controls and develop policies to safeguard assets
- Support budget development and forecasting processes
- Monitor grants, restricted funds, and donor reporting requirements
- Manage cash flow and banking relationships
- Assist with payroll, benefits accounting, and HR coordination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or Controller role
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting and grant tracking
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit procedures, and compliance standards
- Proficiency in Creative Solutions Accounting and MS Office
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
