General Overview
The role of the Estimator involves preparing accurate estimates and detailed project proposals based on thorough analyses and evaluations. This role is pivotal in securing projects through effective bidding and negotiation strategies.
Responsibilities
Estimating:
- Conduct or oversee detailed take-offs.
- Calculate quantities and solicit quotes from suppliers.
- Ensure the accuracy of measurements and calculations.
- Enter project details into an estimation software, applying appropriate pricing.
- Reconcile and incorporate supplier quotes into estimates.
- Organize estimates according to specific cost codes.
Proposal Development:
- Confirm compliance with bid specifications.
- Develop comprehensive proposals using a standardized format, detailing project scope, cost allocations, and team structure.
- Outline equipment lead times and project qualifications clearly.
- Reconfirm all proposal pricing with company executives.
- Proactively follow up on submitted proposals.
Client Engagement and Sales:
- Initiate and maintain contact with potential and existing clients.
- Assess client objectives and recommend solutions to align with their goals.
- Foster trust and cooperation through consistent, quality engagement.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to align sales strategies.
- Expand professional network within the commercial construction sector.
Project Transition:
- Decompose awarded projects by cost codes.
- Document and communicate specific project details and vendor contributions.
- Assist in the negotiation and procurement process as necessary.
- Document any project scope discrepancies or negotiations.
Departmental Collaboration:
- Work closely with the estimating team and report to the Estimating Director.
- Manage and update estimation databases and software.
- Ensure timely and competitive bid submissions.
- Cultivate relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Role Requirements:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
- Skilled in budgeting for design/build projects.
- Experienced with computerized estimating tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- At least 2 years of experience in electrical estimating is required!
- A four-year college degree is advantageous but not mandatory.
