THE POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Development Manager is critical to the operational efficiency and effectiveness of CASEL. This role is accountable for leading project management, partner relations, and communications activities in support of the overall business development function. This includes leveraging systems, including Salesforce, Asana, and Outlook, to support revenue-generating relationships and work streams across the CASEL organization. The Business Development Manager will play an integral role in identifying, securing, and stewarding corporate sponsors as well as program partnerships. This individual will also support the operations of the Development team, including pipeline management, grant award protocol and reporting, and proposal development. The Business Development Manager will assist with the development of marketing collateral and help prepare funder and/or partner presentations. They work closely and collaboratively across the organization to meet annual philanthropic and earned revenue goals.
OPPORTUNITIES/EXPECTATIONS
The Business Development Manager will:
Business Development
Serve as primary contributor to the annual CASEL SEL Exchange’s sponsorship goal by:
Project managing the process of identifying and securing sponsors at various levels to meet the predetermined annual revenue goal
Drafting and coordinating communication with sponsors and exhibitors
Serving as the lead for exhibit booth sales
Leading on-site production and stewardship of sponsors and exhibitors
Develop and manage strategic partnerships to maintain existing relationships and grow philanthropic and earned revenue by:
Researching and identifying prospective donors and partners using tools such as RelSci and Candid
Building and managing a pipeline of both potential donors and programmatic partners; implementing and executing a moves management system
Collaborating with the Development and Implementation teams to identify opportunities for building the pipeline and tracking efforts
Development Operations
Manage the operations of the Development Department through:
Utilizing Asana and other internal tools to project manage deliverables and milestones, such as:
Development pipeline activities
Grant and report deadlines
Other deliverables as assigned by the Director of Development
Lead the Development Department’s utilization of Salesforce by:
Logging activities, notes, and next steps
Handling inputs, reviews, and updates of data and records
Generating reports as requested by the Director of Development
Overseeing gift processing:
Gift entry
Follow-up communication and acknowledgement
Data integrity
Supporting the grant award protocol process
Supporting the continuous improvement of development processes for increased operational efficiency and effectiveness
Marketing/Communications
Support the creation of collateral materials designed to engage potential funders and partners by:
Collaborating with the CASEL communications department to draft and finalize copy for various mediums
Supporting the writing and development of grant proposals and reports
Supporting presentation preparation
Supporting correspondence and business documentation
Other
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The background and educational experience required for this position are:
At least 4-5 years of successful professional experience in nonprofit development or related business fields
Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices to participate in the planning and implementation of an effective, well-rounded development campaign
An understanding of earned revenue through a model of programmatic service delivery.
Solid project management skills, including critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner
Computer skills:
Microsoft Office Suite (required)
Salesforce CRM (required)
Asana or another project management system (required)
Candid, RelSci, or another donor/prospect research tool (required)
Internet-based fundraising tools (preferred)
Background in SEL and/or education (preferred)
