Job Title: Laboratory Manager – ISO 17025 Food Testing Laboratory

About Us:
Alliant Food Safety Labs is an ISO 17025-accredited third-party laboratory specializing in microbiological testing with limited chemistry services. We support food manufacturers, processors, and co-packers with high-quality analytical testing and consulting services to ensure food safety, regulatory compliance, and product integrity.

Position Overview:
We seek an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee daily operations in our food microbiology laboratory. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in a food testing lab, strong working knowledge of foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms, and proven leadership in an ISO 17025 environment. The lab currently includes 9 technicians, an Operations Manager, and a QA Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure timely and accurate testing.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the microbiology team.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards and client-specific requirements.

  • Collaborate with QA and Ops teams to maintain and improve workflow efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support method validation and implementation

  • Interface with clients as needed to provide technical insight and support

  • Maintain appropriate documentation and support audits and regulatory reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a food testing laboratory, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role

  • In-depth knowledge of pathogens (Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, etc.) and spoilage organisms

  • Familiarity with PCR, plating, Petrifilm, enrichment, and environmental testing methods

  • Experience working in an ISO 17025-accredited lab

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
