Location: Houston, TX
Department: Electronic Maintenance
Schedule: 6 months Days: 6am-2:30pm 6 months nights 11:30pm-7am (Will discuss in screening/interview)

Position Overview
Our transportation services company is seeking a skilled Transit Electronics Technician to support our contract operations. This critical role involves maintaining and repairing sophisticated electronic systems on public transportation vehicles, ensuring reliable service for Houston's transit community. The successful candidate will work with cutting-edge transit technology including communication systems, security cameras, and vehicle monitoring systems.
Core Responsibilities
Electronic Systems Maintenance
- Radio Communication Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot comprehensive radio infrastructure supporting fleet operations
- Mobile Communications: Service bus radios and non-revenue vehicle mobile radio systems
- Passenger Information Systems: Repair and maintain electronic destination signs and route displays
- Network Infrastructure: Troubleshoot and repair Mobile Access Routers ensuring connectivity
- Vehicle Monitoring: Maintain IVOMS (Integrated Vehicle Operations Management Systems) across all fleet vehicles
- Security Systems: Service and repair comprehensive bus camera surveillance systems
- Vehicle Control Systems: Diagnose and repair bus electronic control systems
Technical Operations
- Conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance programs to minimize system downtime
- Perform bench repair and component-level diagnostics on electronic equipment
- Execute systematic troubleshooting using logical diagnostic methodologies
- Verify and resolve reported system defects efficiently and accurately
- Inspect vendor installations to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain detailed computer records and documentation for all maintenance activities
- Complete warranty and non-warranty work history reports for assigned vehicles
- Prepare and submit comprehensive reports to Electronic Maintenance Supervisor
- Ensure full compliance with Electronic Maintenance policies and Federal Communications Commission regulations
- Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) safety requirements
Advisory & Safety Functions
- Serve as technical advisor to facility management on bus electrical and electronic systems
- Promote safety awareness and implement safety procedures to prevent workplace accidents
- Maintain security protocols for all equipment, keys, and service vehicles
- Keep service vehicles in clean, safe, and operational condition
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record meeting company motor vehicle requirements
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software applications
- Strong understanding of electronic systems, radio communications, and networking principles
- Experience with diagnostic equipment and electronic troubleshooting methodologies
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and documentation
Communication & Professional Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Customer service orientation when interacting with transit operations staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics, Automotive Technology, or related technical field
- Previous experience in transit, automotive, or fleet electronics maintenance
- Familiarity with transit industry systems (IVOMS, AVL, communication systems)
- FCC license or relevant industry certifications
- Experience with network troubleshooting and IP-based systems
Working Conditions
- Indoor/outdoor work environment in maintenance facilities and on transit vehicles
- Physical requirements include lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces
- Occasional exposure to moving vehicles and electronic equipment
- Standard Monday through Friday schedule with occasional overtime as needed
- Travel to various Houston Metro facilities as required
