Job Description

The  Summer Program Coordinator oversees the daily operations, planning, and implementation of summer programs, for youth ages 11-17, with an emphasis on enrichment and outdoor activities. They are responsible for program scheduling, staff supervision, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Planning and Implementation:

    Develop and implement engaging summer programs, including daily schedules, activities, and special events. 

  • Staff Supervision and Training:

    Oversee and support summer staff, providing training, guidance, and mentorship. 

  • Participant Management:

    Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants, addressing any issues or concerns. 

  • Logistical Support:

    Manage program logistics, including scheduling, supplies, and facilities. 

  • Communication and Coordination:

    Communicate with participants, parents, staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely information. 

Key tasks:

  • Designing and implementing recreational activities: May include sports, games, arts and crafts, and field trips. 
  • Supervising on-site events and programs: Ensuring activities are running smoothly and safely. 
  • Assisting with scheduling and registration: Managing program enrollment and ensuring accurate records. 
  • Working with teachers and directors to develop lesson plans: Ensuring academic programs meet curriculum goals. 
  • Addressing discipline issues and teacher concerns: Providing support and guidance to staff and students. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in youth programming: demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate activities and safety procedures. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team: Essential for managing program operations and collaborating with staff. 
  • AAS in Human Services or a related field; BA/BS preferred or five (5) years of supervisory experience working with youth ages 14+, from the inner-city.
