Position Summary
The President/CEO is the senior executive responsible for the overall strategic direction, operations, and financial performance of the credit union, guided by the Board of Directors. This position ensures the credit union operates in accordance with policies, plans, and directives set by the Board, and in compliance with federal and state regulations. The President/CEO is dedicated to ensuring the credit union’s financial stability, promoting a strong member experience, fostering a positive work environment for employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the credit union’s strategic plan in alignment with Board’s vision and mission. Provide visionary leadership and guide the credit union’s growth and development.
- Operational Management: Oversee all aspects of the credit union’s daily operations, including lending, deposits, member services, and back office functions, Ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the credit union’s financial performance, ensuring its safety, soundness, and profitability. This includes responsibilities related to budgeting, asset/liability management, and investment strategies.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Maintain compliance with all NCUA including the Federal Credit Union Act, BSA/AML requirements and employment laws. Manage risk across all areas of the credit union’s operations.
- Board Relations: Collaborate effectively with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates, reports, and recommendations. Facilitate strategic discussions and provide Board education.
- Staff Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of employees. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment. Conduct regular leadership and staff meetings to encourage transparency, problem-solving, and innovation.
- Member Relations: Champion excellent member service and strive to meet or exceed expectations.
- Community Relations: Represent the credit union in the community and build strong relationships with members and the wider community.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
- Provide leadership development, mentoring, and succession planning for senior management and emerging leaders.
- Conduct regular leadership and staff meetings to encourage transparency, problem-solving, and innovation
- Actively promote the credit union ‘s products, services, and value to current and prospective members through direct business development and strategic partnerships. Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Business Administration). Equivalent experience and industry recognized credentials (e.g. CUNA Management School) may be considered.
- Proven experience in a financial institution, with a minimum of 5 years of senior management.
- Proven understanding of the financial institution operations, lending, compliance, strategic planning, and asset-liability management (ALM)
- Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors.
- Commitment to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”
- Demonstrated knowledge of credit union operations, including lending, deposits, compliance and risk management.
- Strong leadership, management, and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent communication interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Must be bondable and able to pass a background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Degree (e.g., MBA).
- Industry certifications (e.g., CUDE, CCE).
- Experience in strategic change management.
- Strong understanding of the role of technology in achieving strategic and optimizing business operations
