Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and student-focused Guidance Counselor / NCAA Consultant to support student-athletes in navigating the academic, personal, and athletic requirements of NCAA eligibility and the college admissions process. This role combines traditional counseling responsibilities with specialized expertise in NCAA compliance to ensure student-athletes are well-prepared for both academic and athletic success at the collegiate level.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic & College Counseling:
Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions to assist students with course selection, academic planning, and college readiness.
Guide students through all aspects of the college admissions process, including applications, essays, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
Maintain accurate student records and track progress toward graduation and post-secondary goals.
NCAA Compliance & Athletic Advising:
Educate student-athletes and families on NCAA eligibility requirements, recruiting timelines, and college athletic opportunities (Divisions I, II, and III).
Monitor and review students’ academic eligibility using NCAA Eligibility Center requirements.
Liaise with coaches, school counselors, and families to develop individualized athletic and academic plans.
Stay current with NCAA rules, policy changes, and recruiting regulations to ensure institutional and student compliance.
Assist with NCAA Eligibility Center registration and support submission of required academic documentation.
Collaboration & Program Development:
Develop workshops and resources for students, parents, and staff on topics including NCAA compliance, college planning, and athletic recruitment.
Collaborate with teachers, athletic staff, and administrators to create a supportive environment for student-athletes.
Participate in school-wide events such as parent nights, college fairs, and professional development.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education, Sports Management, or related field (Preferred).
Minimum 2 years of experience in school counseling or college admissions; experience working with student-athletes and NCAA compliance strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of NCAA Eligibility Center requirements and recruiting process. (Preferred)
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and student-centered support.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students.
Background as a former college athlete or athletic coach (a plus).
