The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller with a bias for action and a track record of leading teams through growth. Reporting to the VP Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for the general ledger and accounts payable functions. This is a key finance role, owning and contributing to key processes such as month-end close, balance sheet hygiene, financial reporting, working capital management, and other finance projects. The Assistant Controller will assist with the development of internal financial control policies, procedures, and planning.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor General Ledger team, cultivating a culture of continuous improvement development
- Support Accounts Payable manager in measuring productivity and accuracy of the payables process
- Lead period-end close including the preparation or review of journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and financial reports
- Manage key areas of accounting including leases, fixed assets, intangibles, and cash
- Design and implement strong internal controls and continuous improvement measures
- Maintain integrity of financial data and provide technical accounting guidelines and support to staff
- Assist with the annual budget process
- Lead and support the external audit engagements
- Ensure operating procedures and policies are established and adhered to
- Support acquisitions activities and integration of new business units
- Special projects and ad hoc reporting
Requirements:
- BS in Accounting or Finance
- CPA required
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Construction experience is strongly preferred
- Prior experience managing staff
- Attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Able to multi-task, critical and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently, and collaboratively across functions and drive company results
- A strong technical understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is a must
- Ability to efficiently work in a fast-growing business environment
- AP/AR/GL/Cost Accounting experience is a plus
