Position Summary

Plant Sciences Genetics is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Data Management Curator to lead the standardization, integration, and centralization of phenotype, genotype, and pedigree data across all our global berry breeding programs. This role is critical to ensuring data quality, accessibility, and usability for research, breeding decision-making, and long-term strategic planning. The ideal candidate is someone with a background involving large scale biological and agricultural data, who is eager to contribute to modern plant breeding through strong data organization skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and convert legacy and current phenotype and genotype datasets into curated, structured formats, then input into a centralized database system.
  • Maintain both raw and processed datasets to ensure traceability and reproducibility.
  • Standardize data formats and nomenclature across breeding programs for consistency and ease of access.
  • Collaborate with breeders, researchers, and data analysts to understand data sources and requirements.
  • Consolidate and standardize pedigree records across breeding programs while maintaining updated and navigable pedigree trees and files.
  • Support the future integration of additional data types(e.g., genomic, environmental) into the centralized system.
  • Assist with quality control and documentation of data curation procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, genetics, biology, data science, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with high-dimensional datasets in spreadsheet format, including comfort managing very large and complex data volumes.
  • Strong proficiency with database systems, Microsoft Office suite applications (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), spreadsheets, and basic data cleaning.
  • Strong attention to detail and an organized work style.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to learn specialized software platforms used in plant breeding.
  • Familiarity with principles of data integrity, traceability, and reproducibility in scientific research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in plant sciences, genetics, biology, data sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience working with plant breeding data management platforms.
  • Experience working with or handling diverse plant breeding data types (phenotypic, genomic, environmental etc.).
  • Experience performing data wrangling in R or with Excel macros.
  • Experience performing data unification or integration across diverse biological data types (e.g., phenotypic, genotypic, pedigree).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range between $75,000 - $95,000. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Health insurance.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Professional development opportunities.

To Apply:

  • Interested applicants should email their resume to Julia Alexander at jalexander@plantsciences.com.
