Project Manager
Job Title: Project Manager – Commercial Flooring

Reports To: Operations Manager / Director of Project Management
Job Summary:
The primary responsibilities include overseeing and managing ongoing commercial flooring projects from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate will have a background in flooring estimation, procurement, and field management, with a strong understanding of broadloom carpet, carpet tile, VCT, LVT, hardwood, ceramic, sheet vinyl, epoxy, and other specialty floor coverings. Managing installations requires a combination of organization, paperwork, and communication with customer Superintendents, Project Managers, and installation subcontractors. The Project Manager is required to pre-walk job sites to ensure conditions are ready for installation and prepare project sites to ensure a high degree of quality for the scope of work to be performed. The Project Manager will also continuously oversee installation methods to ensure quality and that proper installation methods are being adhered to. This requires a working knowledge of installation methods as defined by industry standards. This position will serve as the direct onsite liaison as a representative of Abbey Carpet & Floor and is required to communicate with the customer and the installers on behalf of the organization.
This position requires a results-driven leader with the ability to coordinate with clients, general contractors, vendors, and installers to ensure timely and budget-conscious project completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Oversee all phases of commercial flooring projects, from planning through final walk-through and closeout.
- Coordinate with general contractors, site supervisors, architects, and internal teams.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, submittals, RFI logs, change orders, and punch lists.
- Ensure jobsite safety, compliance, and adherence to quality standards.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and site visits.
Estimating & Take-Offs
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates using flooring estimating software
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, specifications, and scope documents.
- Perform on-site measurements and review job conditions as needed.
- Source and price material and labor based on project specifications.
- Submit timely and competitive bids.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Create and manage budgets for assigned projects.
- Track project costs and profitability throughout the job lifecycle.
- Approve subcontractor invoices and ensure adherence to contract terms.
- Manage change orders and ensure all changes are documented and billed appropriately.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Schedule material delivery, labor, and equipment needed for each phase of the project.
- Maintain communication with the installation team to resolve any field issues quickly.
- Adjust schedules as needed to meet construction milestones.
Client & Vendor Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and general contractors during the project.
- Maintain positive relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through excellent communication and responsiveness.
Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of experience in commercial flooring project management or estimating.
- In-depth knowledge of a wide range of flooring products and installation methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and architectural drawings.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Estimate All), Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
- Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with general contractors and managing union/non-union labor.
- Background in Division 09 specifications and CSI formats.
- Familiarity with LEED requirements and sustainability initiatives in flooring.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to visit construction sites and perform physical walk-throughs.
- Able to lift materials/samples up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
