Location: Grayling, Traverse City, and various Northern Michigan locations
Pay Rate: $34.08 – $38.12/hr
Schedule: Full-Time | 40 hours/week | Monday–Friday
Contract Duration: 6 to 12 months

Overview:
Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Safety & Health Specialist to support their Gas Operations teams throughout Northern Michigan. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and internal safety standards by conducting field safety inspections, providing subject matter expertise, and supporting continuous safety improvements across multiple service centers and job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct field safety inspections and industrial hygiene sampling (e.g., noise, NORM) across locations including Grayling, Traverse City, Cadillac, Petoskey, Tawas, Alpena, Sault Ste. Marie, Escanaba, and Kingsford.
Collaborate with operations teams to resolve safety concerns and implement proactive health and safety measures.
Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and development of corrective actions, especially for high-risk and recordable incidents.
Support MIOSHA or other regulatory inspections and provide documentation or on-site representation as needed.
Contribute to safety committee meetings and field safety engagement initiatives.
Assist in developing and delivering safety-related reports, presentations, and training.
Serve as liaison between gas operations and Corporate Safety on policy implementation and compliance.
Requirements:
Prior experience in industrial safety, environmental health, or occupational safety within utility, construction, or field-based settings.
Strong knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA standards and incident investigation procedures.
Ability to travel regionally to multiple Northern Michigan service centers.
Proven experience conducting inspections and working with regulators is strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or a safety-related technical discipline.
Experience in utility or gas distribution environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
