POSITION SUMMARY
Strata is seeking a Vice President of Accounting & Finance in Wichita, KS or Houston, TX. This position is a key member of Strata’s leadership team and will work directly with Strata’s President, having immediate responsibility for financial and economic reporting, forecasting, metric tracking, continuous improvement, process development and oversight, growth and vision development, and investment opportunity analysis. The role will lead a team whose daily tasks include invoicing, payroll and taxes, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and procurement and cost control. Successful candidates will be driven and self-motivated professionals seeking to grow their career toward principled leadership and strategic financial direction for a fast-growing small business. Candidates should have experience with tax and/or finance in multiple U.S. states and the ability to be flexible and adapt to new and evolving business conditions. Strata’s clients primarily operate in the midstream oil and gas, heavy industrial, and chemical manufacturing industries; familiarity with the oil and gas industry, in particular, will be critical for success in this role. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of accounting and finance professionals who perform critical day-to-day business functions including:
    • Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers, and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., disbursements, expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable).
    • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable.
    • Review all vendor invoices for proper documentation and approval prior to processing payments and issuing checks.
    • Manage/oversee monthly credit card expense transactions and expense reports.
    • Process payroll, collect/track/record timesheets, and track PTO.
    • Compile and invoice project hours and expenses to clients.
    • Receipt application, cash management, and debit/credit memo creation.
    • Property and asset tracking.
  • Reporting:
    • Develop, track, report, and improve key financial performance indicators.
    • Direct outside accounting firm(s) in the preparation of financial reports and statements and collect, manage, review, and deliver data necessary for their preparation. Prepare interim internal and external financial statements.
    • Meet regularly and collaboratively with the leadership team to share updates, insights, and input.
  • Strategy and Planning:
    • Perform financial forecasting and present forward-looking projections to leadership team for strategic business planning.
    • Provide recommendations for and the implementation of continuous financial improvement initiatives.
    • Perform financial analysis of investment opportunities.
    • Develop and manage budgets.
  • Controls and Systems Development:
    • Develop and oversee accounting and financial processes and systems.
    • Support the development and maintenance of policies and procedure documents and tools based on current processes and in identified areas of need.
    • Maintain accounting/control/project management software, including the screening, selection, and implementation/roll-out of new systems.
  • Treasury and Financial Management:
    • Manage business funds and banking activities and perform account reconciliations.
    • Engage financial institutions for necessary business services.
  • Auditing and Taxes:
    • Ensure all tax reporting and payments are accurately and timely completed.
    • Prepare documentation supporting the annual tax return and annual financial statement audits.
    • Create/record payroll tax payments to multiple state and federal entities.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • Experience 
    • At least eight (8) years of in-depth and hands-on experience in business analysis, finance, accounting, business strategy, procurement that included improving the financial performance of the business.
    • At least three (3) years of staff management and leading cross-functional initiatives as well as engaging a business leadership team to communicate data, reports, strategy, options, and/or seek investment authority.
    • Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Required/Preferred Skills
    • Strong and capable in analyzing and communicating financial performance forecasts, strategic planning, and financial improvement.
    • Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and tax principles and ability to prepare financial statements.
    • Capable of working in evolving and ambiguous business environments and skilled and simplifying and clarifying information to improve decision-making under such conditions.
    • CPA preferred.
  • Computer Skills
    • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
    • Extensive experience with accounting software is required.
  • Interpersonal
    • Effectively communicate financials, budgets, etc. to management, co-workers, staff, and external parties in a manner that can be understood by all.
    • Preparation of tables, charts, and graphs that tell a clear financial story.
  • Confidentiality 
    • Must be able to work under attorney/client privilege and respect and uphold Strata and client confidentiality. 
  • Written Communication
    • Effective writer for the preparation of reports, plans, memos, letters, etc.

    • Able to prioritize and successfully accomplish multiple staff and tasks at once.

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. 
  • Transportation
    • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. 
  • Travel
    • Must be willing and able to travel for at least one week per month. 
  • Authorization to Work
    • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States. 
  • Screenings
