Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable individual to join our team as a Family Shelter Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide critical support and advocacy for families experiencing homelessness. You will assist residents in navigating housing, employment, education, and social services while fostering a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all shelter guests.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day support and supervision to families residing in the shelter.

• Conduct intake and orientation for new residents, including program rules and expectations.

• Assist families in developing and following through on individualized service and housing plans.

• Connect residents with resources such as childcare, employment services, mental health support, and legal aid.

• Maintain accurate and timely case notes, incident reports, and progress documentation in accordance with agency and funder requirements.

• Respond to crises calmly and effectively, following established safety protocols.

• Coordinate with external service providers and case management staff to ensure continuity of care.

• Monitor facility to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with shelter policies.

• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions.

• Support shelter programming such as parenting workshops, life skills training, or family activities.

Qualifications:

• MSW required, LMSW preferred 

• Prior experience working with homeless populations or in a shelter/residential setting strongly preferred.

• Ability to work with families in crisis with empathy and professionalism.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
