Job title: Patient Care Technician PCT
Job location: New York, NY 10019
Shift Evening/Night
Length: 2 months
Pay: $20-$25/hr
Education:
Work requires a high school level of knowledge (graduate or equivalent) in order to prepare reports, keep records and deal effectively with people. AHA HeartSaver or BLS Required.
Skills:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the Specialty Service. • Successful completion of Patient Care Associate Orientation Program offered at The Mount Sinai Hospital. • Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred. • Ability to set priorities, problem solve, use proper judgement in difficult situations and be flexible. • Sufficient oral and writing skills in the English language in order to communicate effectively. • Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the area of assignment. Work Setting Exposed to a variety of clinical conditions, technologies and environmental settings.
Duties:
- Record and document vital signs, intake/output, and pain levels.
- Assist with activities of daily living: feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulation, and orientation.
- Perform clinical procedures: specimen collection, EKG, venipuncture, post-mortem care, and skin care.
- Support dietary needs: deliver trays, assist with menus, and report eating habits.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment; assist with room and bed maintenance.
- Provide one-on-one or close observation for safety or suicide prevention.
- Follow isolation protocols and perform scheduled purposeful rounding.
- Use communication systems (e.g., Vocera); generate reports as assigned.
- Respect and support patient diversity and cultural sensitivity.
- Greet visitors, answer calls, and escort as needed.
- Transport patients, deliver items (trays, flowers), and operate pneumatic tube system.
- Support ICU/specialty units with emergency clean-up, discharge tasks, and supply maintenance.
- Update records and systems: A/T/D systems, communication boards, and medical records.
