Summary:

Designs and tests electro-mechanical components and systems for new and innovative machines, components, prototypes, and devices in accordance with internal and external requirements. This role includes mentoring junior or less experienced product engineers and reviewing the output and work of other team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical design (component specification, selection, modeling, and CAD design), development (prototyping and testing), and certification (agency and regulatory requirements) of systems and components.
  • Initiate and implement new product designs and/or design improvements, including the development and execution of reliability test plans.
  • Perform/coordinate product testing and validation.
  • Communicate with customers and vendors on requirements and materials needed for project completion.
  • Provide technical support to product engineering, sales, and manufacturing departments.
  • Coordinate and manage the integration of new designs into the product commercialization process.
  • Lead and/or interact with cross-functional teams to accomplish assigned tasks, within schedule and budget, with minimal/no supervision.
  • Facilitate and participate in project reviews and meetings.
  • Mentor, guide, and assist in the development and training of junior product engineers.
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications - Education/Experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related degree.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer designing, developing, and specifying electro-mechanical parts and equipment.
  • Must be mechanically inclined with experience and proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Must have a technical curriculum or knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid flow, materials science, and/or electromechanics.
  • Must have experience in at least two or more of the following areas: precision mechanics, electromechanical systems, pneumatics, and design with sheet metal and plastics (injection and thermoforming).
  • Must be proficient in the use of parametric solid modeling software such as SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, Pro-E, or Unigraphics.
  • Must possess excellent math skills including basic math skills and statistical analysis.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Must be fluent in English which includes reading and writing.
  • Experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamic analysis of vapor compression refrigeration cycles preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of industry best practices for engineering design (FMEA, DFMA, etc), preferred.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and a reference check.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to sit, type, have eye/hand/foot coordination, occasionally stand, walk, reach, grasp, lift, push, pull and carry.
  • This position primarily works in a combined office/lab environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may be required to work in manufacturing areas as needed.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Clarity of vision including the ability to appropriately differentiate colors.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
  • The employee may travel in support of a project or business initiatives, typically less than 10%.
