Job Title: Consumer Loan Underwriter – Temp Assignment – $28-$30/hour
Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: Based on experience
Status: Temporary (no set end date)

We’re hiring a Consumer Loan Underwriter to join a well-established credit union in Poughkeepsie, NY. This is a full-time, temporary opportunity with no defined end date—ideal for professionals with a background in loan review and credit decisioning.

Consumer Loan Underwriter Responsibilities:

• Independently evaluate and make decisions on consumer loan applications (approve, deny, or counter-offer)
• Ensure compliance with lending policies, regulations, and best practices
• Communicate lending decisions clearly to members and document any exceptions
• Maintain data accuracy in loan systems and track all relevant member documentation
• Support timely issuance of disclosures required by lending regulations
• Respond to internal and external inquiries with professionalism and accuracy
• Stay current on underwriting guidelines and regulatory changes

What You’ll Need:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in consumer lending or underwriting preferred
• Knowledge of loan origination processes and credit risk evaluation
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
