Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Accounting Manager with proven experience in the non-profit sector. The ideal candidate will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure compliance with grant and funding requirements, and provide accurate financial reporting to support strategic decision-making. This role is essential in maintaining the financial health and transparency.

 

FTS Inc, the fastest growing staffing firm in the country, is representing a client in hopes to find their next team-member. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Accounting Manager with a strong background in nonprofits to join our client's team in Washington, D.C (hybrid opportunity).

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including IRS filings (e.g., Form 990), state charitable registration, and grant reporting.
  • Oversee and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Collaborate with development and program teams to track and report on restricted and unrestricted funding.
  • Lead the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors and preparing all necessary documentation.
  • Support the budgeting process and provide financial insights to program managers and leadership.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and efficiency within the team.
  • Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies for maintaining financial sustainability.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards, fund accounting, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or Blackbaud Financial Edge.
  • Familiarity with grant management and donor reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
