1.0 Position Summary

The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for efficient entry and ISF data input filings in assisting the Customs Brokerage team achieve timely delivery and compliance of Customs regulations as well any requirements of other governmental agencies.

2.0 Reporting

Reports to VP of Regulatory U.S. Operations; works in office 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

3.0 Essential Functions, Job Duties, and Responsibilities

  1. Review entry documents for accuracy and provide feedback to appropriate parties if anything is missing or incomplete.
  2. Review shipment ISF data and submit within the regulatory timeline and manage exceptions as required.
  3. Process and submit entries as required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) verify results and make corrections if necessary.
  4. Work with Management to respond and submit required information to any applicable Participating Government Agencies (PGAs).
  5. Work with management to address any exceptions with the involved parties.
  6. Provide clearance status as needed to the appropriate parties.
  7. Execute file billing in a timely manner.
  8. Develop and maintain customer relationships.
  9. Process imports regulatory documentation.
  10. Ensure that shipments meet all Customs and PGAs applicable laws to facilitate the import of goods.
  11. Performs all other duties or projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university; 0-3 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5.0 Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements

  1. Computer skills – Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
  2. Strong knowledge of compliance and documentation in both ocean and air freight forwarding.
  3. Ability to collect, digest, and organize complex information and use experience to present information in an efficient and thoughtful manner with a strong attention to detail.
  4. Ability to write correspondence and to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  6. Ability to show passion for customer service endeavoring flawless execution.
  7. Ability to multi-task and keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  9. Ability to focus on problem solving with the ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  11. Ability to use time efficiently and to set challenging goals and objectives.
  12. Desired but not required:
    • Two (2) years of experience processing customs entries.
    • Familiar with U.S. Customs Regulations.
    • Basic knowledge of the HTSUS.

6.0 Work Conditions, Physical and/or Mental Requirements

  1. Sedentary physical activity requiring reaching, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, and hearing.
  2. Visual requirement is for close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  3. 90% or more time is spent looking directly at a computer.
  4. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk (or otherwise be mobile).
  5. Employee is frequently required to lift and carry a minimum of 15 pounds.
  6. Ability to deal with stressful situations as they arise.

Duties are primarily performed in an office environment. Minimal physical effort is required. Lifting and carrying requirements of up to 15 pounds. Occasional or frequent ability to move boxes from one location to another. These physical and/or mental requirements are not exhaustive, and additional job-related requirements may be added by the Company on an as-needed basis.
