Title: Utility & Transportation Specialist

Location: Rogers Park, Chicago, IL

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 3:00pm

Essential Functions:

Duties & Responsibilities


Kitchen:

  • Responsible for operating the dishwashing machine, ensuring water temperature is correct and soap and drying agents are connected and working properly; maintain daily dishwasher temperature log. Reports all issues to management.
  • Maintains the organization of dishware, small wares, pots and pans on storage spaces.
  • Responsible for cleaning the food production areas in the kitchen and restaurants including walls, floors, tables, refrigerators, pantry and other areas as necessary.
  • Responsible for removing garbage and recyclables from the kitchen and depositing them in the appropriate venue garbage and recycling area.
  • Responsible for cleaning the kitchen equipment and ensuring items disassembled for cleaning are properly reassembled and operational using establish protocols following cleaning schedule.
  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas.
  • Manages and maintain the storage conditions of goods received using proper FIFO and Food Safety and Sanitation Guidelines.
  • Transfers supplies and equipment within and between storage and work areas such as pantry, walk in cooler or freezer units.

Meal Preparation:

  • Assists with basic food preparation and plating including but not limited to heating/reheating, and prepackaging food items.
  • Prepares carts for meal services (milk, juices, water, wares, napkins, fruit and dessert or snack items as needed).

Transportation:

  • Provides transportation of program foods in agency vehicles to any location that necessitates food delivery. Transportation and deliveries are based on programmatic needs and separated by location (Southside to Southside/ Northside to Northside programs).
  • Drives throughout Chicago and the surrounding areas to deliver or pick up food orders when necessary.

Other:

  • Complies with all HHCS HACCP Policies and procedures including all company safety, hazard, and risk management policies, assessments and training.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • attends the monthly staff meeting.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma equivalent. Kitchen experience preferred.
  • Minimum six (6) months’ experience in a kitchen environment.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Illinois Food Handler’s Certification.
  • Must be 25 years of age with a valid driver’s license. Must have and maintain a clear driving record.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to do basic math skills such as add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • High degree of organization, sanitation, and inventory management abilities
  • Must have excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • May interact with participants if /when they are in kitchen areas or during service.
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Alliance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Each program site operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regard to scheduling and work location.
  • Program sites are located throughout the Chicago area, including the North and South sides of Chicago, as well as the suburbs. Employees may be required to report to any one of our locations on a temporary or permanent basis.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee may be required to remain on organization premises during breaks and/or meal periods and be required to stay on organization premises until their replacement arrives.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Ability to stand 90% of the time.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach and pull with hands and arms. Walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
