About the Role:

The Group Therapist plays a crucial role in facilitating therapeutic group sessions aimed at promoting mental health and emotional well-being among participants. This position involves creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop coping strategies. The Group Therapist will assess the needs of group members and tailor sessions to address specific issues, fostering personal growth and healing. Additionally, the therapist will monitor group dynamics and intervene as necessary to ensure a constructive and respectful atmosphere. Ultimately, the goal is to empower individuals to improve their mental health and enhance their interpersonal skills through shared experiences and professional guidance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Valid state licensure as a therapist or counselor if Master's level
  • Experience in group therapy or related therapeutic settings.
  • CADC, CADDC or MCBAP Development Plan required (PNLH will assist in thecoordination of obtaining MCBAP Development Plan/Certifications).
  • Minimum two years’ experience in substance abuse counseling preferred.
  • PNLH prefers candidates with training in, and experience with, providing trauma-related services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field
  • Certification in group therapy or specialized training in specific therapeutic modalities.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and various mental health issues.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices in group therapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular group therapy sessions, ensuring a safe and confidential environment for all participants.
  • Assess the needs and progress of group members, adjusting therapeutic approaches as necessary.
  • Facilitate discussions, encourage participation, and manage group dynamics to promote healthy interactions.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic activities and exercises that align with the goals of the group.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of group sessions and individual progress.

The required skills for this position include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for building rapport with group members and facilitating open discussions. Active listening skills are crucial for understanding participants' needs and providing appropriate feedback. Organizational skills are necessary for planning sessions and maintaining accurate records of progress and attendance.
