Job Description

A water and wastewater plant Operations Technician supports our Licensed Operator and is responsible
for monitoring, operating, and maintaining equipment at a water treatment plant or wastewater treatment
facility under the Licensed Operators' direction, and ensuring the quality of treated water or wastewater
meets regulatory standards. This is done by collecting samples, performing tests, adjusting chemical
levels, and maintaining proper equipment function while adhering to safety protocols and documenting
operational data; essentially, the successful candidate will manage the processes that purifies the water
for consumption and treats the wastewater before release back into the environment.

Key responsibilities may include from time to time:
Operating equipment:
Managing pumps, filters, chlorinators, aerators, and other machinery involved in the water/wastewater
treatment process at the direction of a licensed operator.
Monitoring water quality:
Regularly collecting samples and conducting laboratory tests to analyze water quality parameters like pH, chlorine levels, bacteria counts, and other contaminants.
Chemical control:
Adjusting chemical dosages based on test results at the direction of our licensed operator to ensure
proper treatment, including adding disinfectants like chlorine.
Data recording:
Support the maintaining of detailed logs of operational data such as flow rates, pressure readings,
chemical additions, and test results.
Equipment maintenance:
Performing routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs on plant equipment.
Compliance with regulations:
Adhering to local, state, and federal environmental regulations regarding water quality standards.
Safety procedures:
Following safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of themselves and others.
Troubleshooting issues:
Identifying and resolving operational problems that may arise within the treatment process.

Work environment: Water and wastewater plant operators typically work in outdoor and indoor
environments at treatment plants, often in shifts, and may be exposed to varying weather conditions.

PRMA's Technician will have the additional responsibility, as it relates to the pending Construction
Project, to support the Construction Activities as a Resident Project Representative on behalf of PRMA
and our Engineer Team. This will require a strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. In
addition, computer literacy for data entry and reporting (primarily Microsoft Word and Excel).

Key responsibilities in this regard include:
On-site observation:
Regularly visit the construction site to observe work in progress, verifying that construction methods and
materials adhere to project drawings and specifications, and document these activities.
Quality control:
Conduct inspections to identify potential quality issues, coordinate materials testing, and maintain a
punch list of items needing correction.
Documentation:
Keep detailed daily logs of construction activities, including weather conditions, labor hours, materials
used, and any non-compliance issues.
Communication:
Act as a liaison between the project owner, and engineers, addressing concerns and facilitating timely
communication.
Progress monitoring:
Track work progress to the approved project schedule, identify potential delays, and report progress
updates to the owner and engineer.
Change order management:
Assist in the review of change orders, ensuring proper documentation and approval procedures are
followed.
Contract administration:
Assist in interpreting contract documents, identifying potential contractual disputes, and facilitating
resolution.
Technical expertise:
Possess a strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and relevant building codes.


The successful candidate should possess the following skills and knowledge:
• Understanding of water treatment chemistry and biology
• Familiarity with wastewater treatment processes
• Ability to operate and maintain complex machinery
• Basic laboratory skills for sample collection and analysis
• Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and minor repairs
• Experience in construction field observation and quality control
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage relationships with diverse
stakeholders
• Strong analytical skills to identify potential problems and propose solutions
• Proficiency in construction software for documentation and reporting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
